Assistance & Utility Information
Help with rent, utilities, food, and legal questions — plus who to call to set up service in your new home.
Talk to Us Early
If money is tight this month, the worst thing you can do is go quiet. Call us at 336.413.6545 before the due date. Many of the programs below need a landlord's cooperation and paperwork to release funds, and several of them move faster when we're already involved. We can't promise a particular outcome, but we would much rather work with you than surprise you.

Help with heating and cooling bills
Two state programs run through Forsyth County DSS: LIEAP is a once-a-year payment toward heating costs, and the Crisis Intervention Program (CIP)helps when you're facing a heating or cooling emergency, like a shut-off notice. Duke Energy's Share the Light Fund also distributes bill assistance through local agencies like the ones above. Apply through DSS at 336-703-3800, and ask the agency you're already working with whether they distribute Share the Light funds.
Food Assistance
Crisis Control Ministry and Sunnyside Ministry (above) both run food pantries in addition to financial help.
Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC
Connects you to grocery and meal programs near you. They don't run a pantry at their own building, so call or use their Find Help page first.
Food & Nutrition Services (SNAP)
